Manitowoc County EMS Association Meeting Minutes                                  1-20-2016

Host:  St. Nazianz First Responders

 

The January 2016 meeting of the Manitowoc County EMS Association was called to order at 1900.  The educational speaker was:   Brian Kohlmeier, Assistant Police Chief Two Rivers and Bill Manis who spoke on Active Shooter Training and Response for Manitowoc County from 1900-2000.  The also spoke on the ROVER kits which will be implemented in Manitowoc County tentatively at Manitowoc, Two Rivers, Kiel and one other place.  We also discussed awareness, then training with table tops in spring, and then a live drill as part of our training plan for the county.

 

Our second educational speak er with Lt. Dave Remiker from the Manitowoc County Metro Drug Unit.  He spoke on the drugs in Manitowoc County as well as drug awareness and responder awareness when responding to EMS calls which could be related to drugs in many ways from injuries with cooking, preparing drugs or using them.  He discussed the high incidence of hepatitis C and IV drug use in our county as well as how SWAT is using EMS on standby for their “busts”.  2000-2030.

 

The meeting was resumed after education.  Roll call was taken.  A quorum was not present. 

 

The secretary’s report was presented but not voted on.    

 

The treasurer’s report was given and ending balances were given as follows:

Checking:         $2132.47          

Savings:           $5025.05          

All 2015 dues are in.  Statements for 2016 are going out in March.

 

Old Business: 

1.       Contact numbers:  Passed for updates. 

2.       Committee reports:

a.       Radio:  The JDC board is aware of the radio frustration with interference.  Texting 911 is working.  The volume was turned down to try and cut down on interference.

b.       Medical Directors:  no updates

c.       Protocols:  We are looking at active shooter guidelines. 

d.       Finance:  nothing at this time

e.       Disaster:  The active shooter drill later this year will be our drill.

f.         Education and training:  If you need something, ask and help will be found.

g.       LTC:  Has a new spring schedule out.

h.       Dispatch:  Has a new director Jamie Aulik.  They also have another new dispatcher.  Sit in visitors are always welcome.  Call the supervisor to schedule a visit at 683-5033.

j.         JDC:  See radio and dispatch

k.       MABAS:  Life safety cards will need to be developed.  EMS is encouraged to work with their ambulance providers asap.

l.         EMS Week:  Set for May 21.  Mark to work with Copps again.

 

New Business

 

1.       Next meeting:  Two Rivers and Two Creeks are switching locations for the next meeting as Two Creeks wants outside education in May.  The date will be the same March 23 but at Two Rivers.

2.       Attendance: Discussion on getting better attendance.  Ideas shared.

3.       RTAC:  Deb and Theresa are active participants at the RTAC.  We are also working on a grant request.

4.       Nominations:  The offices of Treasurer and Vice president are open.  Tom Krajnik accepted a nomination for treasurer and Theresa Becker accepted a nomination for VP.  Ben Jeanty also accepted a nomination for vice-president.  Offices will remain open. 

5.       AED Cable:  no discussion on this tonight.

6.       Grain Bin Rescue:  Valders and St. Nazianz are now certified in grain bin rescue and will gladly come to help anyone as needed in mutual aid.

 

 

A motion to adjourn was made by St. Nazianz and seconded by Cleveland.
