Manitowoc County EMS Association Meeting Minutes                                7/24/2013

Host:  Two Rivers EMS

 

The July 2013 meeting of the Manitowoc County EMS Association was called to order at 1900.  The educational speakers was Nikki Behrmann from JDC who spoke on how dispatch works, the training dispatchers have, some challenges in dispatching, and what we can do to help dispatch.  She also spoke on the questions that have to be answered as well as who gets the priority with regard to their attentions/time.  1900-2000.

 

The meeting was resumed.  Roll call was taken.  A quorum was present.  The secretary’s report was distributed and copies given.   A motion was made to accept the secretary’s report was made by Manitowoc and seconded by St. Nazianz.      

 

The treasurer’s report was given and ending balances were given as follows:

Checking:         $694.98             New CD Balance:  $5198.03

Savings:           $959.67             Only 4 2013 dues are outstanding.                     

A motion was made by Manitowoc to accept the treasurer’s report as presented and Two Rivers seconded the motion.  Motion carried.   

 

Old Business: 

1.       Contact numbers:  Passed for updates. 

2.       Committee reports:

a.       Radio: They are working on the skip issues.  Be patient. 

b.       Medical Directors:  Dr. Martens said new skills for medical responders will include glucometry.  She also asked that all responders use WARDS for any call involving an advanced skill.  New training will be coming for people who want to use glucose monitors.  She also spoke on LVAD’s and VAD’s and what to do with them in the community.  There was also discussion on SALT vs. START triage and of now the RTAC’s do not agree on which one to use.  Dr. Martens gave us her preference which is SALT.  Dr. Marten will pose the question at the STAC meeting to get the RTAC’s to choose one.  Tourniquets are also very acceptable for medical first responders and all levels of EMS to use per Wisconsin protocols and scope of practice.

c.       Protocols:  Committee will be meeting soon.

d.       Finance:  Nothing new

e.       Disaster:  A committee formed of Kevin Siehr., Theresa Becker., Bill /Todd/Gregg, Mark Busse, and Deb Holschbach will work on updating the Mtwc. County Disaster Plan.  Silver Creek is considering the fall disaster drill.  No updates at this time.

f.        Education and training:  Always available if needed by groups.  Theda Clark has case reviews 8/13 at Valders.  Other suggestions were Bill Jones or Dave Taylor for other meetings. Dave has a presentation on tourniquets.     

g.       LTC:  The fall line up for classes is out and copies were distributed.  Sign up early!  .

h.       Dispatch:  Done per education session.    JDC Survey still pending per Chief Manis.

i.         Mutual Aid Agreements: no updates

j.          Website:  Mark Knier will continue to be our webmaster.

3.        Pink Heals:  Mishicot did an awesome job hosting.

4.       MABAS:  Ambulance services are working with first responders.  No updates until after the first of the year.

5.       Defib/trainer:  St. Nazianz presented tentative costs of $1500-$2100 for a training mannequin.  Then the question is what about a defib trainer as the one that was being used is no longer operational.  Manitowoc brought up the idea of getting a grant for this and Todd B. will look into this.  Discussion about LTC “gift in trade” will also be checked out by Todd B.

 

 

New Business

1.       Grants:  Discussion on the group applying for one for defib and trainers.  Todd Blaser to check into.

 

2.       Next meeting: 9/25/13 at 7:00 p.m. at Valders.

 

 

 

A motion to adjourn was made by St. Nazianz and Valders seconded.  Meeting adjourned.
